The Date Night Jar!

Hey Guys!

Today I want to share with you a really quick project I made that is proving to be so much fun! Many marriage guru's and just regular folk on the internet tout the wonders of date nights. But since Charming and I don't have kids every night is basically a date night. Which of course can get dull really fast.

Enter.... the date night jar!

Just grab some popsicle sticks (you can buy these at staples) and your favourite markers (mine are smelly felts!) and write down a bunch of ideas for fun nights you can have. Think of your hobbies, your significant others hobbies and places and attraction in town that you want to visit! Then when you are sitting around, or if you are truly going for a date night pull them out to get the ideas flowing!

Here are the dates I included:
  • Drive to a small town diner & have a milkshake
  • Boy's Choice Movie
  • Wings & Hockey (or your favourite sport) bar
  • Symphony
  • Dinner Theatre
  • Girl's Choice Movie
  • Window Shopping & Cupcakes
  • Bubble Bath & Wine
  • At-Home Popcorn & Movie
  • Puzzle & Pizza
  • Bowling
  • Blueprint your dream home & Subway
  • Coffee & Bookstore
  • Farmer's Market
  • Mani's, Pedi's & Star Trek (sometimes you need compromise :) )
  • Play video games & candy (a great game for non-gamer girls is Minecraft, try peaceful setting)
  • Playground & Slurpee's (even better if you can bike there!)
  • Picnic in the park
  • Driving Range or 9-Holes & Brunch
  • Mini-golf & Ice Cream
  • Anniversary Photo Session (or christmas cards... )
  • Crankpots Pottery Studio
  • Romantic Camping - so just you two
  • Sports game & hot dogs
  • Ikea & meatballs
  • Fancy cooking at home
  • Outdoor skating & hot chocolate
  • Bed & Breakfast Ski Weekend
  • Science Centre (or aquarium, zoo, observatory etc.)
  • Gun Range (i have never shot a gun! neither has Charming!)
  • Museum (or historical site)
  • Take-out & Cribbage
  • Stand-up Comedy
  • Crosswords & Breakfast for Dinner

This is also working well into my goal of posting a picture of the two of us on Facebook each month, so that we actually have a reminder of our life. It is a lot easier to remember to take pictures now that I have been practicing this, and will often remind Adam or take the camera with us places. Many of our recent photo's have been of us on our date nights. Try it out! I'd love to hear how it works for you!

I love this Robyn! There are a few great family night ideas there, too and I think the younger ones will really have some fun with it. Thanks!

  2. I agree! We have used these "dates" with my sisters and family as well. They are really just a good way to get ideas going for fun times. I think it would be so fun to get the kids to put in their own ideas! Plus I like the idea that all of them don't have to involved a huge dinner out, many of these are much easier on the pocketbook.
